Villain Hitting experience

[驚ging1 蟄zik6], Insects Awakening Day, is the day when hibernating animals and insects are said to be awakened by the spring thunder after the weather warms up. The day is also known best for a ritual called “beating the villain" (打daa2 小siu2 人jan4 ).

This ritual itself is derived from the worship of the White Tiger (祭zai3 白baak6 虎fu2). According to one of the folk legends, White Tiger symbolizes the bad luck of villains, quarrels. Gradually, this evolved into driving away disputes by “beating the villain”.

It can also be a year-around activity.

Ever imagined doing that in North Vancouver? Visit this year’s Vancouver Hong Kong Fair to give it a try!
