Did you know, Hong Kong school uniforms were originally in Chinese style? During the 19th and early 20th century, students wore traditional attire like changshan, magua, or cheongsam. In 1918, St. Paul’s Girls’ College made a bold decision to make school uniforms compulsory. Over time, school uniforms gradually became westernized. Shirts with shorts or pants for boys and dresses or pinafores for girls, often paired with ties or ribbons.
This exhibition invites you to explore the evolution of school uniforms and the history and culture behind them. Find out how a simple uniform reflects students’ lives, and the values and social changes of the city. 你知唔知,香港校服原本係中式嘅?19-20世紀初,學生仲著長衫、馬掛或者旗袍返學。1918年,聖保羅女書院做咗個大膽決定,要學生著校服。之後校服慢慢變得西化,男仔恤衫配短褲或長褲,女仔有連身裙或者背心裙,再加呔或蝴蝶結。今次展覽帶大家睇返校服嘅變遷,了解背後嘅歷史同文化,睇下一件校服點樣反映香港學生嘅生活、價值觀同社會變化。除此之外,現場亦設有互動工作坊,大家可以玩公仔換校服貼紙遊戲,一齊回味做學生哥嘅日子。
